The Bible - Naomi

Ruth's mother-in-law in the Old Testament Book of Ruth. Widowed, mother of two sons who also die, Naomi returns from Moab to her native Bethlehem ("house of bread") with her daughter-in-law Ruth. It is there where she helps Ruth find her "kinsman redeemer," Boaz, ultimately preserving the family line through which would descend both King David and the greatest king, Jesus.

The etymology of Naomi's name is not certain, but it is possible that it means "good, pleasant, lovely, winsome."
